LavaTherm Natural Sheep Wool Pipe Insulation is a 50mm wide strip of dense wool felt, supplied on a 7.2m roll that covers approximately 3 metres of 15mm or 22mm pipe. The strip is stitched along one edge to form a continuous sleeve, which is what makes it more versatile than rigid foam.

FITS NEW AND EXISTING PIPEWORK
Because it is a sleeve, you can thread it straight onto a bare run from an open end before the fittings go on - the traditional first-fix method. But you do not have to break into finished pipework to use it. Cut a length off the roll with scissors, wrap it around the pipe and secure it with a cable tie or a twist of twine. Both methods work, and the wool scrunches to cover elbows, tees, valves and stop taps rather than leaving them bare the way pre-formed foam sections do.

GOES WHERE FOAM WILL NOT
At 50mm flat the felt is slim and flexible, so it suits boxed-in runs, pipes tight against a wall, under-sink clutter and awkward loft corners where a thick foam sleeve will not go in.

WHAT IT DOES
Wool is a good insulator at 0.033 W/mK, so it slows heat loss from hot water and central heating runs, helps reduce the risk of pipes freezing in lofts, garages and outbuildings, and reduces condensation forming on cold water pipes - the drips that rot a sink unit base. Wool is also a natural acoustic absorber, so it quietens the ticking and creaking of pipes expanding between joists and inside stud walls.

NATURAL MATERIAL
Sheep wool is renewable, naturally flame retardant, and recyclable after use. It is hygroscopic, absorbing moisture without losing thermal performance or feeling damp. It is also pleasanter to work with than mineral fibre - no glass fibres and no itch.
