Central Heating Pumps

Our central heating pump selection is focused rather than broad: high-efficiency Lowara ecocirc circulators in the two port-to-port sizes that cover most UK domestic replacements. The Ecocirc M 25-6/130 is 130mm port to port with a 6m head – the size that replaces a 15/50 or 15/60 pump – and the ecocirc L 25-8/180 is 180mm. Both use G 1 1/2 inch connections and are stated direct replacements for a Grundfos UPS2 or UPS3.

Both run an EEI of 0.18 or less, cutting the pump’s own electricity use by up to 80% against an older fixed-speed circulator pump, and both have three control modes: proportional pressure for TRVs, constant pressure for underfloor heating, and fixed speed for boiler feed or single-pipe systems. Will a Lowara Ecocirc M replace my Grundfos pump?
Yes, for a UPS2 or UPS3. The Ecocirc M 25-6/130 is a stated direct replacement, at 130mm port to port with G 1 1/2 inch threads.
What is the difference between the 130mm and 180mm central heating pumps?
Port-to-port length and head. The Ecocirc M is 130mm with a 6m maximum head; the ecocirc L 25-8/180 is 180mm. Measure the existing pump body between the union faces before ordering – the two are not interchangeable.
Is a 15/50 or 15/60 central heating pump the same thing?
For replacement purposes, yes. The Ecocirc M 25-6/130 covers the 15/50 and 15/60 sizes at 130mm port to port.
What speed or mode should I set a central heating pump to?
Proportional pressure (A-B-C) for systems with thermostatic radiator valves, constant pressure (1-2-3) for underfloor heating, and fixed speed (I-II-III) for boiler feed, single-pipe systems or systems with hydraulic separators.
Can I use these central heating pumps with underfloor heating?
Yes. Constant pressure mode is the recommended setting for underfloor heating, and the ecocirc L is suited to radiator, underfloor and mixed-use systems.
How efficient are these central heating pumps?
Both Lowara circulators run an Energy Efficiency Index of 0.18 or less, with the Ecocirc M rated below 0.17 and drawing a maximum of 34W. That reduces the pump’s own annual electricity consumption by up to 80% against an older fixed-speed pump – it is a saving on the pump, not on your whole heating bill.
What do the LED colours on a Lowara ecocirc pump mean?
Steady green means the circulator is running normally, blinking green means the automatic air-purge is running, blinking yellow is stand-by, and red indicates a pump failure or dry run.
My Vaillant ecoTec Plus boiler pump has failed – what do I need?
The Duca 178983 is a direct replacement designed specifically for Vaillant ecoTec Plus boilers, with a 5-wire connection and the ancillary parts needed to complete the installation.
