The Fernox Electrolytic Scale Reducer 22mm (part number 62304 / 62552) is a limescale inhibitor designed to provide whole-house protection for your domestic plumbing system. A significant build-up of limescale can badly reduce heating efficiency, create noise, and increase the risk of part failure in boilers and appliances.
This unit is BS7593:2019 Code of Practice compliant and acts as an inhibitor for central heating systems. It is specifically recommended by Part L of the Building Regulations for hard water areas exceeding 200 ppm, to minimise the effect of scale on energy efficiency.
The scale inhibitor uses an internal zinc anode to emit charged zinc ions, which cause hardened salts to cluster together. Instead of forming stubborn deposits on heat exchangers or heating elements, these minerals pass harmlessly through your appliances. It is maintenance free, requiring no power supply, batteries or replacement parts.
Installation is straightforward using the 22mm compression fittings provided, suitable for professional plumbers and competent DIYers alike. The unit is non-directional and can be fitted horizontally or vertically depending on your pipe run. Made from forged nickel-plated brass, it is pressure rated to 10 bar at 20°C and built for a service life of up to 10 years.
