The Hinton Compression Fitting Spanner (HFS1522) is a double ended split ring spanner made for the two compression nut sizes you meet most often in UK plumbing and heating: 15mm and 22mm.

Why a split ring spanner? A standard open ended spanner only touches two flats of a compression nut, so on a tight or stubborn brass nut it can slip and round the corners. The split ring head on this Hinton spanner has a narrow opening that slips over the pipe, then closes around the nut so it grips more of the flats. That gives you a firmer hold and helps protect the fitting, whether you are tightening a new joint or cracking open an old one.
