Radiator Valves

Our radiator valves cover angled, straight and corner in six matching finishes – white, black, chrome, anthracite, brushed brass and brushed nickel – as thermostatic radiator valve and lockshield sets, manual wheelhead pairs, and replacement TRV heads on their own. Everything here is 15mm compression with ½" BSP radiator tails, solid brass bodied, rated to 10 bar and 120°C, with liquid-filled sensor heads that react faster than older wax elements.

The heads are the part most people actually need. All of ours use the standard M30 x 1.5 thread, so they fit most UK thermostatic valve bodies – including Drayton TRV4 and RT212 – and swap on in a couple of minutes without draining the system. They start at £5.99 singly and come in packs up to ten for contract work, alongside complete TRV and lockshield sets from £7.49. Trade prices, same-day dispatch on orders before 1pm.

Not sure whether you need a head or a whole valve? Send us a photo of the valve body and we’ll tell you what fits. Get in touch and we’ll help you find the right part.

Radiator Valves – FAQs

What thread do radiator valve heads use?
M30 x 1.5 is the standard, and it is what all our TRV heads use, so they fit most thermostatic radiator valve bodies used in UK heating systems without special tools.
Are TRV heads interchangeable between brands?
Usually yes, as long as both are M30 x 1.5. Our LavaTherm heads are built to match the popular Drayton TRV4, and the Drayton RT212 head fits RT212 bodies and other M30 x 1.5 fittings. What they will not fit is a non-standard fitting or a smart thermostat system.
Do I need to drain the system to change a TRV head?
No. Replacing the head on an existing compatible valve body does not require draining – it is the cheapest way to restore temperature control on a radiator whose valve body is still sound. Replacing a whole valve is a different job and does mean draining down.
Angled, straight or corner radiator valves – which do I need?
Angled suits pipework arriving from the wall or floor into the side of the radiator. Straight suits pipework running directly up from the floor into the radiator inlet. Corner keeps the pipework tight to the wall for a low-profile finish, which is why it is the usual choice for towel rails. They are not interchangeable, so check before ordering.
What does the lockshield valve do?
It regulates the return flow from the radiator so the system can be balanced, letting every radiator heat evenly instead of the ones nearest the boiler running hot. It goes on the return pipe, with the TRV or wheelhead on the flow.
Do radiator valves come as a pair?
Our TRV sets include one thermostatic valve and one matching lockshield – a full set for one radiator. Manual sets include a wheelhead and a lockshield. The exception is the Drayton TRV4 Classic, which is supplied as a sensor head, valve and radiator tail with no lockshield.
What size are your radiator valves?
All 15mm compression with ½" BSP radiator tails, which is standard for UK radiators. They are not suitable for 8mm or 10mm microbore.
What temperature range do the TRVs cover, and is there a frost setting?
Our LavaTherm heads adjust from 7°C to 32°C and the Drayton RT212 covers roughly 8°C to 28°C. Both include a frost setting that opens the valve automatically in very cold conditions, which is useful in unused rooms and unheated spaces.
Do the smart TRVs need a hub?
It depends which. The Secure Radbot 1 needs no hub, wiring or app and runs on two AA batteries. The ENGO ETRV-M30 only works with ENGO E25 and E40 thermostats and requires an ENGO E-Gate Pro gateway – it will not pair with other hubs or smart home systems.
